Report from the 2-08-08 CPABOD meeting in LA from Dave Hennerman
VCPA members who would like to support prescription privileges for psychologists can go to www.cpapsych.org. There are plans to reintroduce legislation in 2009, but not this year.
The new CPA President emphasized marketing, government advocacy for psychologists (to increase their income) and outreach to other professional organizations.
Someone at the meeting (there were about 40 people from associations like ours from all over the state) made the point that parity with health care may not increase psychologists income.
Are you interested in becoming more active and developing your leadership skils? If so, contact CPA because there is a leadership conference in Sacramento on April 13-15. Also, I have an application I can mail to you.
Some ideas I heard from this meeting: plans to offer mentoring for early career psycholoigsts, create new APA internships sites in community clinics that serve migrant workers and the homeless, explore 'sistership' with the Croatian Psychological Association.
Contact Dave Hennerman with any questions or concerns you may have (805/766-2035 or hennerman@att.net). I have lots of additional information: an orientation manual, a CD, and about 95 pages of handouts from the meeting.
Sincerely,
Dave Hennerman
